Unlocking a Healthier Tomorrow: Budhanilkantha's Health Policy Pathway
Budhanilkantha Municipality stands out as one of Nepal's peaceful and historic municipalities. The municipality has 13 wards scattered across 35 square kilometers of geographical areas with 177,557 (National Population and Housing Census 2021). The municipality has a high prevalence of health issues and the burden of non-communicable diseases remains significantly high. Alongside these diseases, environmental pollution, waterborne illnesses, and road accidents also contribute to the municipality's health challenges. Addressing the diverse health problems faced by the residents who reside in Budhanilkantha Municipality, a well-planned approach has been initiated to provide quality healthcare services through targeted resources. A systematic strategy, as outlined in the municipality's health policy, aims to eliminate and manage these health issues effectively.
The Budhanilkantha Municipality's health policy was developed based on the concept of the life cycle. A workshop was organized for five days, during which discussions were held on various national and international health policies, studies of health strategies, and the organization of health workshops. Special attention has been given to the burden of non-communicable diseases, aiming to integrate health promotion with disease prevention and healthcare delivery methods. This policy encompasses various health sectors, such as neonatal health, safe motherhood, child health, adolescent-friendly health, family planning, sexual and reproductive health, elderly health, environment, healthy food and water, waste management, prevention of communicable and non-communicable diseases, mental health, disaster and epidemic management, health of people with disabilities, pollution reduction, integrated medical practices, health information technology, health supply chain, storage and distribution, skilled manpower, financial management, and more.
